Java 6 message won't let me on chat!!!!

i am also having the same problem with Java

I can't seem to get to the chat box, the Java 6 message is there, its says I have to down load Java 6 to get to the chat room, well I have Java 6 and that damn message won't let me pass!!!! I down loaded it 4 different time just to be sure, my computer says it is up and running just fine and that it has replaced the old version just fine!!! So, How do I get past that Java message that is in the same location as the chat box would be? if I can't get past it I can't join you guys on your investigations anymore:( Please help!!!!! Edward

sorry to hear edward..i also have java issues but for me its my old 1985 computer haha yes 85 built by an ex boyfriend..my computer does not have the strong engine in it so it gives me the option to either watch the stream on ustream and if i go into chat..which can be a problem constantly, but if i do get in i have to pause the stream to chat..then unpause the stream to watch...

maybe make sure you have removed all the old java on your comp by doing a search as sometimes old versions will be in your prefetch as the add/remove program does not always remove everything...another way to check your java is to go to another site that is totally java run besides here and java itself...

but myself i have the right version also, spent almost 6 months trying to figure out what i was doing wrong..and it did come down to being my computer that was the problem

--check to ensure you have removed previous versions of Java, then allow the new one to download. go directly to the Java site, and download it from there.
--bring up your Java console (sits in your system tray--bottom of putor left of your time, see the icon, right click on that) and hit "clear" or "c" to clear it, and "x" to clear classloader cache
--bring up your Java control panel (right click on icon) and go to "advanced" and under "default Java for browsers", ensure your browser is clicked in there.

then close your browser, and open a new one. hopefully that should help out. let us know!

hey spook...thot i would go thru what you posted..was doing a few things you mentioned but not them all..a little maintence lesson never hurt anyone...and well may help with my java problem on chat..who knows lol...crosses fingers for sat. night..that i can chat and watch stream at same time

Tim I asked you about this problem on myspace! I saw you read it but then you never responded! I beleave I sent it during the investigation at the old steel factory, I even said something about it on the shout box, but was ignored I could watch all the cams just fine, just couldn't get past the java message I have now re re re installed Java 6 update 6! I went to add and remove programs on this beast and removed 2 other Java apps. they were Java 6 updates 3 and 5. If this don't work I'll let you know! Thanks for responding now! Train your puter is the same one the cavemen were using isn't it, it has a crank handle on the side!LOL how does the processor even handle it? time to upgrade to a ITT with a black and green screen!LOL Thank you very much for your input, advice and help!!! Train cranks and cranks up the computer..now i have power lol..hey edwards its not as bad as i make out it to be..its indeed old, but does the trick..my issue is i cannot watch two streams without a shockwave error, but lately it changed to not able to chat without pausing the stream..alot of work hahaha...already in the process of another box for this baby thanks to a very special friend ..but for now i can just work around my problems..i also did what spook mentioned just to do extra maintainence...in all actuallity tho the box is old and runs slow..im on high speed and running xp sp2..with this dino i just need a few upgrades but not just yet..

hope your computer is working just fine now and no java problems..hard to check it out until livescifi comes back live..or if you can just go into chat and see how it goes..just chat with yourself..i believe i have done that hahahaha..

Edward, i apologize for not getting back to you in the shoutbox. i do so many things all at once during investigations (as does Tim) that often i forget to get back to those having chat issues.

Edward & Train, i certainly hope the extras i've suggested work for you both! and anyone else having a problem. sometimes when chat begins to lag a wee bit, i pop up my console and clear it (with the "C" and "X") and it seems to work! so i hope you can keep those tips in mind while in the chat and try it if anything happens.

i use Firefox to watch the streams, chat and use shoutbox. it enables me to "clear cache" (without clearing cookies & passwords) and that also helps. i do it when things begin to slow a wee bit. so if you use Firefox, it's a great tip!

let me know on Saturday night. send me a "PM" during chat, and tell me if these suggestions work. if for any reason you have problems, and are only able to shout out in the shoutbox, i'll keep my eyes open for your messages and get to you promptly. ok??

I was eager to be part of it, but Java had to stick his nose in and say hey wait!!!!!!! I got a new job and the past 2 months or so I would come home at 1:30am central time and check in just to find out the hunt was already over! and originally thought the Java message was there because chat was closed!!!! so for the next hunt when I'm home we will see if Java message will be gone! I'll keep my fingers crossed, hopefully I'll see all you wonderful people on chat next time!!!!! Edward

Edward believe me i hear you lol..i have been with livescifi for well over a year..only in the last few months have i had problems..be it no streams at all or stream off of ustream and float livscifi chat or mute stream to chat lol..i never used to have any problems at all except for lag in chat..now its become my mission to overcome all problems..myself i did open the console and hit c and x before i did i noticed a bunch of error messages..so i read them and took the time to fix whatever java was complaining i was doing lol...and i clicked x also i do use firefox also..and go into tools ..options ..advanced and clear out my cache..since i did what spook suggested i seem to have no issues with java at all..hahaha...but will know for sure sat. night..i swear if i had no problems i would have nothing to talk about..or would i and just to let you know..there are many times i try to pm tim with something important or not important at all..if he does not return my message then i know he is very busy...i often kid him about never answering my pm..but then suddenly he sends me something...its just something we all kinda understand in the family here..that is the reason we have spook, myself, or for the forums spook myself, spooked 1 and odd..someone is always usually around to try to guide or help...
