Robot soldiers that can decide who to attack will soon be roaming the world's battlefields if something isn't done about the global 'robot arms race'.
That is the stark warning from a leading robotics expert who spoke today of the dangers of allowing increasingly sophisticated robots to make decisions of life and death.
Professor Noel Sharkey, a robotics and artificial intelligent expert from the University of Sheffield, also warned that armed robots could soon become terrorists' weapon of choice.

😮 tim that was sure a disturbing read and the thot of that happening is to real and very scary stuff..
as for the programs in the robots, im sure its very possible that hackers will indeed hack the programs and do just that, which makes it just plane frightning to think of...and well not to far down the road...lets just hope this never actually gets off the ground in our lifetime nor our childrens lifetime or grandchildren...
thanks for sharing the article tim....after franks box you did maybe you can build us all our own robots now...i need my driveway shoveled lol

i agree.. it is a disturbing read. 😮 i realize we already use robots in many ways in the armed forces around the world. in airplanes, on the ground, even in our police forces to help in seeking out and destroying weapons/bombs etc.
what amazes me continually, is that man is always looking for a way to destroy those they do not get along with, all because we cannot sit down at a table, hear and listen to one another clearly, and come up with compromises that work for everyone. 
sad it is.. truly sad.
for me, having taken Leadership Coaching in College, and applying it in my daily job and life.. i think all our world leaders need a few coaching sessions on how to talk to one another. 😉 haha!
i can understand the need to try and reduce the loss of so many lives of those who volunteered to protect our rights. but where we build and create, others will copy and use it for something more disturbing.

hey.. i could use a robot as well. i wonder what parts we need to build our own, and if Livescifi.tv will put on a "how to" for that!

yup yup i hope tim does a show on how to make us a robot.. as well would be dandy if the robot could be a designated driver hahaha then i would be home for sure tonight....for chat.... 😁

...these robots they write about in the article...it would be interesting to know if they have any sheilding from electromagnetic pulse radiation (EMP). If not, detonating an atomic device in the upper atmosphere near where the robots are deployed will fry all their circuits and make them inoperable. Hmmm, I wonder which is better....trying to fight them, or lighting up the sky with nukes.....
Perhaps we should follow up on the Buddinator...he could collect and be powered by non-evil spirit energy and be an ambassador of peace for years to come...

I beg to disagree, they can't even make it that we can stay connected to the net, let alone have a bot that thinks for itself. It will always be a machine and thus be under the tutelage of humans. They will only be able to follow the guidelines of us or a hacker. Unless they use DNA to make one and have a brain like ours (flesh) will they have free will and free thinking. I find this to be completely impossible now or in the future. But interesting premise for a movie. 😁

hey putty, either way its pretty scary stuff, but what frightens me the most is not knowing just what the government is doing or what they are up to, but im sure its not anything good...and yup i agree with you that to have a killer robot or machine to do anything, you indeed need a human to control it..... 🙁
